On a smaller Samsung 1920x1080 monitor the Apple Multi AV adapter seems to work perfectly fine, but on the Dell it isn't stable (using HDMI at 1920x1200 resolution, as the Dell only supports higher resolutions over DVI or DisplayPort). Using a LogiLink USB-C to Displayport is a bit more stable then the Apple adapter, but also often experiences the same problem. The monitor often goes blank after a short time ("power-saving" mode) or only occasionally displays an image and then goes blank again. I'm trying to use a Dell 3008WFP monitor as an external screen (maximum resolution 2560x1600 with my MacBook, but that doesn't seem to work well. This way you can avoid it happening while your device is unattended.I have a Macbook 2016 and both an Apple USB-C to Multi AV-HDMI adapter and a LogiLink USB-C to DisplayPort adpater. I do this because setup guide requires you to set bootcamp drive as default drive, thus you never know if system unexpectedly restarts and defaults to Windows partition with eGPU plugged in, causing ghosting issues again. When I'm done using eGPU I make sure to shut down Windows and disconnect eGPU. I use apple_set_os.efi drive to boot from as described in the setup guide which allows me to boot Windows without freezing / flicker / ghosting. I'm just cautious to not have eGPU plugged in directly with Bootcamp / Windows.

This made me think that I was not dealing with permanent hardware issue, rather than it was more likely system level / possibly drivers issue.īootcamp eGPU setup guide worked for me ( ) In my case ghosting / flickering slowly faded and finally disappeared after 2 hours of running computer as normal.Īs it was almost gone but still visible I booted to safe mode (Holding Shift key before boot to macOS) and it didn't show there.

","By only having an integrated GPU, the 13″ MacBook Pro sometimes hangs at the Windows bootup process if an external GPU is connected." - but not sure why ghosting / bleeding / flickering persists as after effect.

This seems to be the best explanation found here at egpu.io - " When booting into an operating system that is not Mac OS, the Mac laptop’s firmware tends to deactivate the integrated GPU if there’s another GPU present. macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later don't support eGPUs in Windows using Boot Camp or when your Mac is in macOS Recovery or installing system updates." ( ) After searching online I discovered that it's not only Razer but other eGPU enclosures can cause the same issue.Īpple's official support article states that " 3. I reached out to Razer using email support and they are taking long to answer. Ghosting / flickering persisted in recovery mode, Windows / bootcamp and other user environments. When I booted back to macOS Mojave, the screen started showing ghosting Windows boot logo with flicker. After that, I force shut down the laptop and disconnected eGPU. I gave it minute or two but it kept doing it. When I attempted to boot to Windows using bootcamp, windows boot screen froze and started glitching with lines and other anomalies.

macOS Mojave 10.14.4 / Bootcamp Windows 10 latest update as of MBPro 13" 2xTBT 3 ports (Non-Touch Bar) Thank you for reading my situation, hope some one can help me out of this, thank you so much!!!Įxperienced the same issue just recently. I try to boot MacOS to safe mode but it not help. It also flickers on rEFInd boot manager screen. Now I boot in to Mac and it flickers too, I see a windows logo bleeds in the back even on macOS. I don't know when it happen, I think it start when I changed eGPU to left-bottom TB3 and disable Port #9 – 9D18 at Windows.Īfter disable, something go wrong so I enable it again but it not help, I think my screen start flickers from here So I continue to make it work with bootcamp, and everything work fine too.īut after a lot of time reset to Windows 10, I see my built-in screen blink, external screen work fine. At the first time, I connect eGPU to TB 3 port (right-top) and it work just fine.
